Are All Bloggers Created Equal.

By Rahul Garg

It’s funny how certain situations can make or break you.

My daughter’s not been sleeping well over the past few nights and I’m tired. I’m sure I could win the grumpiest dad in the world competition even.

But it’s also given me some quiet time to think lying awake in the dark.

An article I read by Don Purdum at Unveil the Web has been on my mind ever since I read it:

Dare To Be Different And Reach More Prospects, Buyers, And Earn Raving Fans

And that’s what I’ve been thinking about.

FAMILIARITY BREEDS CONTEMPT

Taking a look through my Feedly account, I see a lot of familiar sites about blogging, social media, marketing and SEO.

Being part of a blogging community is great but it does mean that you often end up reading and producing recycled stuff.

I’m guilty of it myself. You read a great article and think it would be interesting to write about the same subject yourself.

The trouble is that’s not always wise if you don’t have a completely different take on the subject.

Putting your own personality into these things can go a long way to making them unique. Is that really enough though? I suspect not.

Sure, personality and your own experience is important. If you don’t have a unique perspective though it’s going to be about the same stuff wearing a different jacket.

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT

Now when it comes to daring to be different, I wanted to share with you some of the bloggers who I think do just that.

JOSHUA WILNER

I’ve been following Josh since I started blogging and if there’s anyone who dares to be different, he does.

And that’s without even trying.

He’s someone who knows how to tell a good story and use it to teach, motivate, generate debate and make you think.

JENS-PETTER BERGET

Jens is a blogging buddy of mine from Norway.

He has a particular style of writing that I admire. He’s also another master story-teller.

Jens is unique. Everything he writes has a message we can all learn from.

 CRAIG MCBREEN

I like Craig. He’s a personable character.

I know whenever I read anything that he’s written that I’ll end up thinking hard about my inner self.

It’s inspirational stuff.

DANNY BROWN

The guy needs no introduction.

If you want to learn about Marketing, then you’d do well to follow Danny.

Daring to be different should be his middle name.

DAVID RISLEY

I’m a student of David’s.

He knows his stuff when it comes to marketing. It’s no nonsense advice that he gives out.

The best part is he makes it easy to understand so I can put things in place without any fuss.

ASHLEY FAULKES

I feel like I’ve grown up blogging with Ashley. He and I have been blogging buddies for as long as I can remember.

I’ve watched him grow as a blogger and develop into someone who dares to be different.

He often comes up with things I wish I had. That’s why I rate him so highly!

DON PURDUM

Don is someone I’ve only recently become acquainted with.

He’s a smart cookie and has already made me sit up and think differently about blogging.

That’s definitely a gift worth having.

BLIMEY, BEING SAMEY IS SAFE. DON’T YOU LIKE SAFE?

I drive a safe car. I live in a safe neighbourhood. I don’t do any dangerous sports. I have a young family.

Screams safe to you? I am Mr Safe. I like it too.

Yet, whilst I like safe. It’s boring. It’s dull. It’s comfortable and convenient.

It doesn’t inspire and excite. It doesn’t make people want to come back for more.

Is that what you want from your blog? No? I thought not.

Me neither.

WHAT MAKES SOME BLOGGERS STAND OUT FROM OTHERS?

  • Uniqueness – They don’t sound like anyone else or try and replicate anyone else.
  • Originality – They have their own ideas and don’t regurgetate others in their own words.
  • Offer Opinions – They’re not afraid to tell it like it is or share what they think about something, good or bad.
  • Problem Solvers – They provide you with a solution to something you’re struggling with.
  • Storytellers – They know how to weave their own stories into their blog to make others relate to them.

HOW DO YOU DARE TO BE DIFFERENT?

It’s interesting to hear how others perceive this subject when it comes to blogging.

People dare to be different in many ways.

How do you make yourself stand out from the crowd?
