Why You’re Not Generating Traffic From Your Target Market.
You keep hearing that you must focus on your target market right? So what if you find your target market, but yet you’re still not getting the traffic you desire? Just because you’re doing affiliate marketing or MLM doesn’t mean everyone in those industry is going to be interested in what you have to say. In this post I will go into more detail about this and how you can rectify this problem!
You know I found my target audience in 2010 about a 3rd of the way into that year.
But there were a few problems…
- A lot of those people weren’t really interested in what I have to say, although they claimed that they were genuinely interested.
- A lot of them would turn the tables and pitch me
- They wanted to know how long would it take for them to get rich
With that being said, this showed that I wasn’t getting anywhere when it comes to traffic and sales conversions when it comes down to it!
Have you ever felt like this? Although you have your target market but yet you just wasn’t getting anywhere with the strategy you chosen. Specifically blogging.

What’s consider Quality Traffic?
Ok, so you determined who your Target Market is, right?
If you’re in network marketing, your target market is other network marketers. This is the same for Affiliate Marketing, and other “genres” of home businesses. At least that’s what I was taught when I first got online.
The problem?
The majority of these reps and affiliates were doing the same thing as I was doing. They were blasting their blogs and opportunities, but yet weren’t going anywhere with them!
We all would get overly emotional about what we were representing and not really looking closely at how we were marketing and who we were marketing to.
Emotions will blind you like this!
For me, a lot of trials and tribulations came.
For the longest I felt like I was working really hard, but yet not going anywhere. I had to do a self analysis of myself and how I was marketing.
I determined that I had to go back. I mean wayyy back to the roots of blogging and driving traffic! So I basically started over!
Now what if this is you? You’re working hard, executing your routine every week, you believe you’re working smarter, but yet you feel you’re in the same place after so many months and even years?
Let me ask you this?
- Are you using Sharing Programs like Buffer or Hootsuite?
- Are you in every home business group (MLM, Affiliate Marketing, Cash Gifting, etc…)?
- Are you blogging everyday or every other day?
- Do you go to every webinar to learn about strategies and tools?
- Do you blog about your products or affiliate programs every chance you get?
If you’re doing all of these activities constantly but yet show little to no results as far as traffic, then you definitely have to take some steps back. You must look at yourself as well as the people you’re sharing information with.

So what do you do?
Figure Out Who’s Serious And Who’s Not
Well let me tell you what I did…
Since me and my girlfriend dance salsa, we get approach once in a while by people who say they want to learn now to dance.
We’ve seen two groups of people that ask these two questions:
I want to learn and how long will it take me to learn?
vs.
How much do you charge for lessons?
And it’s always been the case that the one’s that ask us how much we charge are the more serious ones. They value the lessons and we usually see them at the same salsa clubs we go to!
Now when it comes to blogging, you know what I see?
I found out that the bloggers who are more serious are usually commenting on the same blogs that I comment on just as those serious people that want to learn salsa.
Here are some more indicators that I noticed with serious bloggers:
- They buy similar tools
- They become part of similar groups
- They go to the same trainings
- Share very similar information
- Get into similar opportunities
Coincidence? Law Of Attraction?
I saw a pattern here, and I decided to follow through.
As a result I started getting better, more quality traffic! Even with having less than 800 people per month coming to my blog, I was still got sales conversions!
This actually goes to show that you don’t need 10’s of thousands of visitors to get good traffic and sales. You just need good, quality traffic that you’re solving their problems for.
How do you determine if you have good quality traffic?
First, One thing you want to do is to keep digging! So lets say you’re in network marketing, and you market health products. Who will be your target market? Other network marketers, but that’s a broad market… so lets dig deeper!
- Target Market is other Network Marketers
- Other Network Marketers within the Health Industry
- Other Network Marketers, In Health Industry, who market to people in fitness
- Network Marketers, in Health Industry, market to people in fitness with a blog.
So Number 4 would be considered your Niche Market! This is basically a market, that’s inside a market, that’s inside a market, going 4 levels deep. You’re breaking it down to a “T” so that you can explose your blog to quality traffic!
In My Last Post I talked about the metric of the bounce rate. The bounce rate helps you determine if you’re getting good, quality traffic or not. If your visitors stay on your blog and go to other pages without leaving (bouncing) from the first page, then you’ll have a lower bounce rate, meaning you have good, quality traffic! And from my research the ideal time for them to stay on your blog is 7 minutes.
Otherwise, you have to think about why you have a high bounce rate for your blog, despite the fact you are sharing your blog with your target market. Make sure you check out my post about the Bounce Rate
Google Analytics And Generating Quality Traffic
For most beginners, when you first find out about Google Analytics you get supercharged about the idea of getting the answers on how to get more qualified traffic to your blog.
But then you actually go into the site and find out it’s a bit more than meets the eye! You have so many options on what to set up that it can be quite daunting to figure out what graphs would be important to you.
This is why I wrote this Google Anaytics for beginners post for all of you that’s looking for simple direction on what metrics to use when you analyze your traffic.
If you haven’t set up up Google Analytics, you want to:
- Get a Google account. You can Go Here to sign up with Google
- Log into your wordpress and install Google Analytics For WordPress plugin
- Sign into your Google account if you haven’t already ready, and make sure you go to http://www.google.com/analytics
- Now you can link your WordPress Blog to Google Analytics. Here’s a 7 minute Instructional Video I found by Stacey Myers that you can follow:
Once you have this set up, you can go back go Google Analytics to check out the basic metrics of your blog which would be the Sessions (Incoming Traffic), Average Session Duration (how long they stay on your site), Bounce Rate, and Goal Conversion Rate.
The Goal Conversation Rate is a great way for you to track the performance of the sites your visitors opt into. Here’s A Post that shows you a simple way to set this up within Google Analytics!
Use Influence Marketing To Leverage Top Blogs
One of the fastest way to get great quality incoming traffic to your blog is through influencer marketing. What is Influencer Marketing?
Let’s say you have a blog about basketball. You talk about stats, key players, game reviews, your opinion on who’s going to make it to the playoffs, etc…
You’re in a basketball blogging group, and each person in your group shares each other’s blog. You get decent shares of among the social sites.
But what if people someone like Charles Barkley or Michael “Air” Jordan himself were to share your blog posts? With their influence, do you think your shares, popularity and traffic would go through the roof just because they’re sharing it?
Of Course!
This is influencer marketer. You find someone who has a big following within your Niche Market, “rub elbows with them” using the law of reciprocity, get noticed by them, and next thing you know they’re sharing your content!
This is definitely a great strategy to kill a million birds with one stone!
So how do you find these influencers.
The only one that I have used thus far is Topsy. I found quite a few influencers within the site which lead me to other blogs within my niche market.
With that being said, you’ll run into some of the more serious bloggers within the blogosphere. As long as you are participating on their blogs by commenting and sharing they will eventually reciprocate the same back to you.
And you know what that means?
More quality traffic coming to you based on influencers!
